The Thunderbirds used a total-team effort to beat Sachem East 34-0 and improve to 5-1. This is the second time in the last three seasons the Thunderbirds have started the season at 5-1 matching the 2008 Long Island Championship team. With one more win the Thunderbirds will be Division I Big 4 Champs for the third consecutive year which comes with it a home playoff game. The last time the Thunderbirds finished as Big 4 Champs for three consecutive seasons were 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, in which they did it four consecutive seasons.

On Saturday the Thunderbirds built a 21-0 halftime lead behind a sharp offense and some great defense. Almost all of the starters were removed halfway through the third quarter. Mike Pellegrino led the way with 165 yards rushing on 12 carries and two touchdowns. He, also, returned a punt 50 yards for another touchdown. Defensively he was all over the place making 14 tackles and getting one quarterback sack. On the season, Pellegrino has 865 yards rushing, 12 touchdowns, 8 quarterback sacks, and 75 tackles. He continues to be one of the top players in Suffolk County.

Kevin Jadick only threw three passes, completing two of them, one for a 28-yard touchdown to Steve Compitello and the other a 20-yard reception by Nick Reisig, but his leadership and ability to run an offense have been outstanding. Both of his completions were on beautifully thrown footballs. He is enjoying a terrific season and will be looked upon to lead and run the offense as the team gets ready for a November playoff run.

Joe Cirrone played another excellent game at linebacker making 12 more tackles to increase his team-lead to 97 total tackles on the season. He is a force in the middle and has brought a lot of speed and toughness to the defense this season.

Sophomore Dan Pamlanye has enjoyed a fantastic season. A two-way starter he has been great on both sides of the ball. Offensively he has cleared the way for the running game and provided some great pass protection for Jadick. Defensively he has been great at taking on blockers and making plays at the line of scrimmage. Saturday was no different as he had a season-high 10 tackles.

Elvis Marchand has had a great season on both sides of the ball as well. As a two-way starter he has provided great line play and great leadership. He enjoyed a great game on Saturday, finishing with seven tackles and some solid blocks.

Nick Cascio continues to enjoy an outstanding season. Offensively he has done a great job playing TE/FB and defensively he has been a wrecking ball at his DE position. Sachem East had difficulty running to his side as he made 10 tackles.

Tommy McInerney has enjoyed an awesome season. Offensively he is the Thunderbirds leading receiver, a terrific blocker, and defensively he has been a leader on the defense knowing all of the alignments and making the correct checks. He had a great game on Saturday making 8 tackles, two for a loss and providing some great coverage from his secondary position. On the season he leads Suffolk County with 7 interceptions.

Steven Candito had an excellent game on Saturday. He made four great tackles and had one outstanding quarterback sack. Candito has really been an asset to the team this year. He knows all of the plays offensively and defensively, and is always ready when called upon. He has been a solid leader for the younger players to look up to and has shown an ability to be a great tackler.

Steve Compitello had a terrific game scoring his first touchdown on the season on a beautiful throw and catch, being an outstanding blocker downfield, and providing strong coverage in the secondary where he broke up two passes. He has had an excellent season thus far.

Other Thunderbirds who shined on Saturday were Mike Pinto, Nick Reisig, TJ DeGirolamo, Michael Cella, Ryan Renfroe, Kenny Drew, and Mohammed Hashmi, who had his first quarterback sack.

Saturday was "Senior Day" at Connetquot and the Seniors did not disappoint. They all played well and have been very instrumental in the team's great success this season. Thank you, Seniors! Thank you, Steven Candito, Nick Cascio, Michael Cella, Miguel Clemente, Steve Compitello, Bobby Coppinger, Demetrios Costakis, Mark Dale, Damie Danseglio, TJ DeGirolamo, Taylor Goldson, Mohammed Hashmi, Kevin Jadick, Kyle Koferl, Elvis Marchand, Tommy McInerney, Mike Pellegrino, Mike Pinto, Nick Reisig, Kevin Sangalang, and Josh Sherer.
