To start the season with their second straight win, the Thunderbirds used a total-team effort to defeat a very good Brentwood team. The T-Birds used a great second half, outscoring Brentwood 13-0, to pull away with the victory. Offensively the T-Birds had 346 total yards of offense led by Mike Pellegrino's two rushing touchdowns and Kevin Jadick's two touchdown passes to Tommy McInerney.
Pellegrino had another outstanding game, rushing for 207 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns. His last run of the game was a 40-yard touchdown run that sealed the victory for the team. Ryan Harvey contributed with 63 total yards, 49 yards on 5 carries and a reception for 14 yards.
Kevin Jadick had another terrific game completing 60% of his passes (9/15) for 78 yards and two touchdown passes. On the receiving end of those touchdown passes was Tommy McInerney who led the team with 5 receptions for 53 yards and the two touchdowns. Steve Compitello had another great game returning, gaining 92 yards on 4 returns.
For the second straight week, Jadick did not get sacked thanks to a very good and improving offensive line of Dan Pamlanye, Elvis Marchand, T.J. DeGirolamo, Kenny Drew, James Elder, Kevin Federlain, Nick Cascio, and Nick Reisig. The O-line has made great strides since camp started on August 16 and continue to improve each week.
Defensively the Thunderbirds gave up touchdowns on Brentwood's first two drives and then completely shut them down the rest of the game holding them to 57 total yards through the last three quarters. A great number is Brentwood tried throwing the ball 15 times and they only completed 1 pass for a total of 6 yards.
Mike Pellegrino led the defense with 14 tackles, a quarterback sack, and 2 pass break-up's at the line of scrimmage. For the second straight week he was all over the place. Joe Cirrone had another fantastic game registering 14 tackles and one tackle for loss. Cirrone has been a great player on the defense showing terrific speed and a knack to find where the football is and the ability to make a play.
Tommy McInerney continued to make terrific plays from his safety position getting two interceptions and breaking up a pass. He now has four interceptions after two games. Real impressive. Steve Compitello had a great game and provided a much-needed lift with a bone-crushing hit on a pass over the middle to force the receiver to drop the ball.
Dan Pamlanye had another tremendous game. For two straight weeks he has been a force at his D-line position and registered 8 tackles. He was beating his man almost every play and was a huge help in holding Brentwood to very little yards after the first quarter.
Other players who shined on the defense were Nick Cascio, Ryan Renfroe, Nick Reisig, and Elvis Marchand. It has been a great start to the season as the Thunderbirds have gone 1-0 for two straight weeks. All the players should be real proud of themselves. T-Bird Nation.
