The Thunderbirds openend up the 2010 season with an outstanding 40-26 victory over Northport on Saturday. It was a great game and a total-team effort that led the team to the road win and start the season 1-0.
The Thunderbirds were led by an excellent offense that totaled 461 yards of total offense. Mike Pellegrino had an unbelievable game rushing for 280 yards on 22 attempts, 4 of those runs went for touchdowns. He, also, had a 25-yd touchdown reception. Defensively, he was all over the field, registering a team-leading 13 tackles, 3 quarterback sacks, 4 tackles for losses, and a forced fumble. He was an absolute warrior on the field. For his great performance, he was named MSG Varsity's Tri-State Player of the Week and Newsday's Player of the Week.
Kevin Jadick had an outstanding game at quarterback. He made some great throws and had two really great runs. Jadick led the offense to six touchdowns, throwing for one and running for one. He finished the day completing 7 of 13 passes for 121 yards and rushing for 24 yards on 2 attempts.
Tommy McInerney had a terrific game from his safety position making three key defensive plays. He had 2 interceptions and a fumble recovery, all stopping Northport's offense in Connetquot's territory. All three of T-Mac's turnovers led to touchdowns for the Thunderbirds. The last two coming in the crucial 4th quarter. McInerney, also, finished with a lot of great blocks from his receiver position and on returns and had a great reception totaling 37 yards.
Other players who had great games were: Steve Compitello, 96 return yards, 2 receptions, 7 tackles. Michael Pinto, 47 yards receiving on 2 catches, 3 tackles, 1 for a loss. Joe Cirrone- 13 tackles. Ryan Renfroe- 11 tackles, 1/2 a sack. Steven Hartnett- 4 special team tackles. Nick Cascio- 7 tackles, 1 for a loss. Nick Reisig- 9 tackles. Kenny Drew- 4 tackles, 1/2 a sack. Greg Dittmar who made 4 of 6 point after attempts and had some good kick-offs. Kyle Koferl who did a great job punting. Great blocking up front from the offensive line of Dan Pamlanye, Elvis Marchand, T.J. DeGirolamo, Kenny Drew, James Elder, Nick Cascio, Nick Reisig, Taylor Goldson, and all of the receivers.
It was a really great game and a terrific way to kick-off the 2010 season. 1-0!
