Congratulations to Brian McIlvain and Mike Pellegrino for being honored by the National Football Foundation on Sunday, December 6th at the Crest Hollow Country Club. McIlvain was honored for being one of the top scholar football players in Suffolk County. One player from each team in Suffolk County is selected as the top-scholar athlete from that team and then the National Football Foundation narrows it down to the "Golden Eleven"-the eleven best scholar athletes in Suffolk County. Brian was named to the 2009 Suffolk County Golden Eleven. Outstanding achievement!
McIlvain, an All-Division football player, is one of the smartest players to ever wear the Thunderbirds uniform. Ranked #2 in his class of 591, he continues to perform at a very high-level in the classroom, still playing football, participating on the Swim Team, lifeguarding in the summer, and being a part of many other clubs and activities. A great football player, a great student, an outstanding person, Brian made everybody real proud with the heart he showed over the last two years as a T-Bird, displaying a great deal of courage as he overcame tremendous adversity with a knee injury. Thank you and congratulations on being named one of Suffolk County's Golden Eleven. A huge accomplishment.
The National Football Foundation and Excel Rehabilitation each week selects one player from Suffolk County who had a phenomenal game, what they feel is the best game from the week. Ten players were honored this year. Mike Pellegrino was selected in Week 2 for his awesome performance vs. Longwood in which he scored six touchdowns and rushed for 245 yards and had over 320 all-purpose yards. Defensively, Pellegrino also made five tackles and broke up a pass in the game. His five-touchdowns in the first half was one of the best, perhaps the best, halves of football ever put forth by a Connetquot Thunderbird. He had a stellar season leading the team in rushing yards, return yards, rushing touchdowns, total touchdowns, and was one of the best defensive players on the team. Thank you and congratulations on the fantastic achievement.
