RYAN LANIGAN, CODY ELSIS, & JOE ZUCO LEAD THE DEFENSIVE EFFORT IN THE 28-6 VICTORY!

The Thunderbirds used a ferocious defense to beat Lindenhurst on Saturday, 28-6. The team had eight quarterback sacks and made three great interceptions. The team played exceptionally well in all areas of the game-offense, defense, and special teams to improve to 2-2.

Ryan Lanigan, the defensive leader, played a great game. He had fifteen tackles, ten solo, and two tackles for loss. He, also, did a terrific job with lining up the defensive line and coverage on various formations. Offensively, he had some bone-crushing blocks that opened up some great holes for Mike Pellegrino and Joe Zuco. He, also, made excellent snaps on punts and PATs. Lanigan is having a tremendous year and continues to provide some terrific leadership to his teammates with his hard work, no-nonsense approach.

Cody Elsis had another outstanding performance from his defensive back position and on special teams. Elsis provided some big plays with two huge interceptions, returning one for a 33-yard touchdown to give the team a 14-6 lead, and returning the other 50 yards to set up a score right before halftime. He had twelve tackles, eight solo, one for a loss, and made some great tackles on special teams. Our holder on PAT, Elsis did a terrific job. He is having an excellent season building on his great season last year.

The defense got to the quarterback eight times and Joe Zuco was there for three and a half sacks. Zuco had twelve tackles, eight solo, and had four tackles for loss. He was a force at linebacker, providing great leadership for the defense and putting some great pressure on the QB. He continues to recover from a leg injury, but is getting better with each day. Offensively, he had a dazzling 48-yard touchdown run, finishing the game with 62 yards rushing on five attempts. The returning All-Long Island running back has yet to have more than five carries a game, but when he is fully healthy-watch out!

A lot of players put together great performances: Pellegrino ran for 159 yards and had two touchdowns, Ryan Andersen threw a touchdown pass and had a key interception on defense, Matt Nason kicked all four of his extra-points, the offensive and defensive line played great. It was a total-team effort.
