Mike Pellegrino continued his amazing year! He scored every touchdown, six, for the Thunderbirds in an outstanding offensive performance for the T-Birds on Thursday over Longwood. Pellegrino rushed the ball 34 times for 246 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. He, also, caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Andersen. For the game, he totaled 322 All-Purpose Yards (rushing, receiving, kick, and punt returns).
Defensively, he played extremely well too. He made three solo tackles, broke up two pass plays, and sealed the victory with an interception late in the 4th quarter. An unbelievable performance for the second straight week. On the season he has rushed for 394 yards on 53 carries, a 7.4 avg, and has 7 rushing touchdowns. He, also, has 748 All-Purpose yards and 9 total touchdowns, to go along with two interceptions and his 15 tackles. For his phenomenal performance he was named MSG's Tri-State Offensive Player of the Week and Newsday's Athlete of the Week.
To do what Pellegrino did he needs a strong offensive line-he had that. The offensive line of starters Kevin McHale, Brian McIlvain, Brandon Carnevale, Mike Compitello, Zach Sterling, subs Ross Grynko, T.J. DeGirolamo, Nate Alessandro, tight end Ryan Lanigan, and fullback John Zullo were outstanding! They did a great job of blocking, providing some big holes to run through and solid pass protection for Andersen. The Thunderbirds ran for 310 yards and passed for 142 yards, giving them a total of 452 yards. Outstanding play!
The Thunderbirds travel to Patchogue-Medford to take on the Raiders this Friday night at 6pm. Come down and support the team in their quest for a second straight victory. An injured Joe Zuco is supposed to return to make the offense even more explosive.
