Brian McIlvain, Mike Pellegrino, Nick Barrios, and Ryan Renfroe are Players of the Week

Posted Monday, August 31, 2009 by Michael Konsevitch

The Thunderbirds have started preparing for this upcoming season with a great numbers of players working real hard over the last two weeks. A lot of players have stood out, putting forth an excellent work ethic, strong leadership, and being very coachable.

Senior Brian McIlvain has made an impact in all areas of the game-offensively, defensively, and with his terrific leadership. Always giving 100%, guiding his teammates, and displaying great talent that will make the two-way starter a huge force to be reckoned with come game-time! He has done an awesome job so far!

Junior Mike Pellegrino has really stood out over the last two weeks. A very talented athlete who is coming off a sensational sophomore season, has made great progress as a running back, defensive back, and returner. He, too, has shown good leadership on the field and will be an outstanding threat to score any time he touches the ball.

Sophomore Nick Barrios has done a great job all camp, working extremely hard, getting better at his position, and showing great leadership for the JV. Barrios is projected as a two-way starter for the JV and will be looked upon to be a strong leader on the defensive side of the football.

Freshman Ryan Renfroe has shown enough athletic ability, talent, and a great work ethic to be given a shot at making the Varsity team. He continues to work hard, get better, and is very coachable. He has a great ability to run the football and is not shy about getting his nose in the play.

Congratulations to these four players and the other 100 who continue to put forth great effort, showcase team unity, and aim for a very successful 2009 football season.
