The Thunderbirds played an overall outstanding team effort in their 35 to 21 victory over Brentwood on Saturday. The defense was led by Jeremy Leggiero's 20 tackles. The offense was led by Joe Zuco's 124 yards rushing. The special teams was led by Jonathan Sternbach's 95 yard kick return for a touchdown.
Offensively, the Thunderbirds rushed for a season-high 335 yards and had 386 total yards of offense. Joe Zuco was the leading rusher with 124 yards on 20 carries. He, also, had a 20 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that put the T-Birds up by 14. Zuco is having an excellent year and is really establishing himself as a terrific running back for the (3-1) T-Birds. Other players considered were Jeremy Leggiero, 121 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns, and the entire Offensive Line, DJ Pamlanye, Ryan Lanigan, Kevin McHale, John Smith, Mike Compitello, Alex Lorenzo, Andrew Grogan and Brandon Carnevale, who paved the way for the running backs with some outstanding blocking.
Defensively, the Thunderbirds put forth another great effort intercepting Brentwood two times, one by Joe Pellegrino and one by Jon Sternbach. Pellegrino's awesome pick sealed the victory for the T-Birds late in the 4th quarter. The D was led by Jeremy Leggiero. Leggiero had 20 tackles, 13 solo, 3 tackles for loss, and 1 quarterback sack. Leggiero leads the team with 60 tackles through 4 games and continues to make some fantastic plays. Other players considered were Mike Pellegrino, who continues to play a tremendous corner. He made numerous great plays and had 9 tackles, 5 solo. Dylan Clifford played a great game with 7 tackles, 4 solo, 1 for a loss. John Smith continues to play terrific adding 7 tackles, 2 solo, and 1 for a loss.
Jon Sternbach was the Special Teams player of the game for his unbelievable 95 yard kick return in the 3rd quarter breaking a 21-21 tie. His return put the team ahead for good and shifted the momentum to Connetquot's side. Sternbach, also, scored on a 15 yard run earlier in the 3rd quarter and continues to have a phenomenal year.
