align="center">T-BIRDS RUSH TO VICTORY
The T-Birds finished the season with an exciting 32-13 victory over Commack closing out the season with their fourth win. The T-Birds offense was the difference as they accumulated 365 total yards behind 285 yards rushing the football. The offense, also, scored on their last four possessions totaling 26 second-half points.
The scoring was started when Junior RB Joe Pellegrino had a great 35-yard touchdown run behind some excellent blocking to give the T-Birds a 6-0 second quarter lead. The extra point was blocked. Commack added a touchdown right before half to put them ahead 7-6 going into the second half.
The T-Birds opened the second half with a fantastic 14-play, 70-yard drive that was capped off when Senior QB Stan Hartnett ran the ball in for a 3-yard run to give the lead back to the T-Birds 12-7. On the drive, Hartnett ran for 27 yards and Junior RB Chris Dale ran for 26 yards.
Commack came right back and added a score on a long touchdown pass that gave the lead back to Commack 13-12.
The T-Birds took control of the game in the 4th quarter, scoring three touchdowns and holding Commack to 0 first downs.
First, Senior TE Steve Cluen caught an 11-yard touchdown reception from Hartnett to put the T-Birds up for good 18-13. After Commack was forced to punt, the T-Birds only needed two plays to go up 25-13. On a fantastic play call, Junior WR Jonathan Sternbach took a reverse and went untouched on a 55-yard run. It was Sternbach's 4th play of the season of more than 50 yards for a score.
To close out the scoring, Senior HB Doug Smiroldo had an awesome 25-yard run with two minutes left in the game to give the T-Birds a 32-13 victory over Commack. Senior K James Campbell added the last two extra-points. Connetquot closed out the season at 4-4.
It was an exciting, well-played game by the T-Birds. Hartnett finished with 80 yards passing and 48 yards rushing. Stan, also, had 4 solo tackles, one for a loss, and played great in coverage. Sternbach had 124 total yards, 69 receiving. Dale led the team with 81 yards rushing. Junior LB Jeremy Leggiero led the team with 17 tackles, 11 solo, and 4 tackles for a loss. The O-Line played terrific. Seniors Vinny Danseglio, Chris Shea, Steve Cluen, Brian Taylor, and Juniors John Smith, Sam Thornton, and Andrew Grogan provided some great blocking. It was an awesome way to close the season!
