James Tripodi, Doug Smiroldo, Steve Cluen, Chris Shea, & Alex Lorenzo are Players of the Week vs. Sachem East

Posted Sunday, October 21, 2007 by Michael Konsevitch
James Tripodi had an outstanding game! He rushed for 80 yards on 18 carries and scored 2 touchdowns. He opened the scoring with his first touchdown and his second touchdown, a 5-yard run, with 17 seconds left on a 4th and goal play pulled the T-Birds to within 1. He also provided some bone-crushing blocks throughout the game. From his linebacker position he had 5 tackles and provided constant pressure on the quarterback during the entire game. He played with a lot of heart.

Doug Smiroldo played with a lot of passion and determination. He ran the ball for 57 yards on 7 carries, scored a touchdown on a great 18-yard run, and scored the winning 2-point conversion to give the T-Birds a 1 point victory. On the final drive, Smiroldo carried the ball 4 times for 29 yards steamrolling through Sachem East's defense. Defensively, Doug had 7 tackles.

Steve Cluen, once again, brought a lot of passion and fire to the game. Steve provided some strong blocking from his tight end position. Defensively, Cluen was creating havoc to Sachem East with his fierce pass rush. He finished the day with 7 tackles, 2 Quarterback Sacks, a Fumble Recovery, and constant pressure on the QB. Like always, Cluen was an outstanding leader at all times.

Chris Shea had another terrific game on the Offensive Line. Shea provided some strong blocking and continued to show confidence and leadership on the field. On the game-winning drive, him and his linemates were leading the way for Tripodi and Smiroldo. Shea has had a great season thus far and continues to improve with each week.

Alex Lorenzo had another unbelievable game from his D-Line position. Lorenzo led the team with 12 tackles, 6 solo, 2 tackles for loss, 1 Quarterback Sack, and a Forced Fumble to stop a Sachem East drive inside the T-Birds 10-yard line. Lorenzo has brought a lot of energy to the team and plays with a great motor throughout each game. He, too, is having an excellent season.

Congratulations to the T-Birds on their phenomenal and exciting victory. There were a lot of great performances by a great number of players but these were the players that really stood out! On Senior Day, the Seniors really stepped it up!
