Congratulations to Carmen Melillo and Billy Booras for making the Suffolk County Division I All-Star team. They will be playing at Hofstra on Wednesday night, November 22 at 7 PM when the Division I and II All-Stars from Suffolk take on the Conference I and II All-Stars from Nassau. Carmen will be playing Wide Receiver, while Billy will be playing Free Safety.
Carmen started two years for the Thunderbirds as a WR/OLB. He was very productive and helped make the Thunderbirds a very competitive team. In two years, Carmen finished with 35 receptions for 501 yards, a 14.3 average, and two touchdowns. Carmen, also, ran the ball for 199 yards on 35 carries, a 5.7 average, and three touchdowns. Defensively, Carmen finished his two years with 101 tackles, 63 solo, four tackles for losses, two interceptions, two blocked kicks, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, and one quarterback sack.
Billy started two years for the Thunderbirds as a FS. He, too, was very productive and played a very tough defense. In two years, Booras finished with 87 tackles, 47 solo, four interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. Billy was a great help to our defense at stopping the run and defending the pass.
If the past is any indication both of these players will have great games. In 2004, QB Zach Shagi, a former Thunderbird, was the Offensive MVP in a winning effort over Nassau. Zach led his team down the field for a game-winning touchdown with no time left. Last year, LB Mark Leggiero, a former Thunderbird, was the Defensive MVP in a winning effort over Nassau. Mark had a terrific game and was all over the field.
Best of luck, Carmen and Billy! Play with Thunderbird Pride!
