The T-Birds improved to 3-3 with an outstanding 21-14 victory, on the road, over a tough Lindenhurst team. The team played outstanding and brought a great deal of energy and excitement to each play. On a chilly, windy night the Thunderbirds heated up the place and their great fans.
Offensively, the team ran off a season-high 74 plays for 441 total yards of offense and 21 first downs. During this excellent offensive outburst they committed 0 turnovers and received some outstanding blocking from their O-Line. The offense controlled the game and the clock eating up the last 6 minutes of the game with a crucial drive to seal the victory.
Tyler Shagi led the way throwing for 166 yards on 10/16 passing and a 15-yard touchdown pass to Carmen Melillo. Shagi also had some exciting runs, rushing for 93 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown. On the receiving end of those terrific throws in a tough wind was Melillo and Vinny Pellizzi. Melillo had 5 receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown, while Pellizzi had 5 receptions for 71 yards, and made some great blocks downfield. Also, Melillo and Pellizzi each had a 30 yard kick-off return.

The offensive line of Joe Warshaw, Mike Cluen, Chris Shea, Ryan Schmid, Tom Coffey, Steve Cluen, and James Scala provided some terrific pass protection and solid run blocking paving the way for 278 rushing yards and 166 passing yards. James Tripodi had 81 yards rushing on 24 carries and a touchdown. Kevin Escobar had 51 yards rushing on 8 carries and a 2 point conversion. Doug Smiroldo had 34 yards rushing on 9 carries.
For the third straight game the Thunderbirds defense played excellent. They held the Bulldogs to under 200 yards of offense and had a terrific goal-line stand in the third quarter. The defense was tenacious all game holding in check an explosive Lindenhurst offense.
Billy Booras led the team with 12 tackles and made some great defensive plays. Vinny Pellizzi provided three crushing hits on his way to 11 tackles. He also broke up three passes. James Tripodi had another awesome game. He had 10 tackles and led the team with three of those tackles being for losses. Carmen Melillo had 10 tackles, two for losses. Matt Shulman continued to play outstanding from the Mike Linebacker position having 6 tackles, 2 for losses. Lastly, Jon Sternbach, making his first start of the year, played a great game and added 4 key tackles.

It was a huge win for the T-Birds and kept their post-season hopes alive. The team was well-prepared and ready to play and every member of the team should be real proud. Next Friday the T-Birds travel to Walt Whitman to take on the Wildcats at 7 PM. Come cheer on the T-Bird Nation.
